TYPES OF SLOPE CLOSURE
When you buy some earrings, the first thing you usually look at is their design, the materials they are made of, if you feel comfortable with them and, in short, the most attractive part. However, there is a very important aesthetic detail that is necessary to value and that usually goes to the background: we are talking about the types of earring closures. Have you ever had trouble putting on or taking off your earrings? And the fact is that every design is determined by its type of closure that adapts to the tastes and needs of each person.
There are several types of earring clasps that you may not know about. Well, in this article we are going to reveal what they are so that you have a much clearer idea when deciding on one model or another:
- Pressure clasp
This type of clasp is the most common and the most used in jewelry thanks to its convenience. It also receives the name of nut clasp. It can be simple, screw or butterfly, the latter being the safest and most used because, having a small groove, it holds the bolt or "stick" to perfection and adjusts the nut that takes to join them. It is not recommended to exert too much force, since the bolt is usually fragile. They are very easy to put on, comfortable, and hold the earring perfectly to the ear. You can even sleep with this type of earrings, as it is very unlikely to tear the earlobe.
2. Omega clasp
Its name comes from its resemblance to the letter of the Greek alphabet. This type of clasp is one of the most classic and traditional and is usually used in larger or heavier earrings, such as those with stones or pearls, because it fits the earlobe, holds the piece better and does not cause discomfort to the wearer.
3. Hook-and-loop or hippie closure
This is one of the most popular fasteners because of its ease of use, especially among young people. They can be open or closed and are generally used for earrings that hang below the earlobe. One of the disadvantages of this type of clasp, in our opinion, is that with prolonged use, the ear loses definition and hangs down, causing the earlobe to show. Care should also be taken when removing a garment over the head so that the earring does not get caught or lost.
4. Catalan clasp
The Catalan clasp is a cross between a snap clasp and a hook clasp and works as follows: a hinged lever must be fitted into a small hole at the other end of the earring. To make sure it is securely closed, you should hear a small click when it snaps into place. It is one of the safest and most widely used clasps in the jewelry world, as it is very unlikely to open as it is fully engaged.
5. Clip clasp
This type of clasp is characterized by its convenience, since it is not necessary to pierce the earlobe to wear it. It is a very good option if you want to cover an earlobe that is visually faded. On the contrary, this clasp is more insecure, as it is not pierced in the ear, it is easier to come loose. Within this class we can distinguish two types of clasp: the normal clip or the screw clasp. The latter had a great use during the 60's and nowadays it is very difficult to find it, since the rest of closures that we have been talking about predominate.
6. Congo or African clasp
It is used especially in earrings. This clasp consists of a very thin bar that fits on the opposite side of the ring, closing the gold completely.
