How to know your ring size

If you have ever thought about buying a ring for yourself or for someone else very close, for a birthday gift or to propose to your partner, it is very important to know the size of the ring you are going to buy.

You might wonder why it is so important to know the correct size. The truth is that if the ring size does not match the person's finger diameter, it will not hold properly. Thus, different situations can arise.

If, on one hand, the ring is a size too big and it will be very loose, it could fall off and you risk losing it on the street or anywhere, really. If, on the other hand, the ring is a size too small it may be that either you can't put it on or it is so tight that you can't take it off later, causing an uncomfortable and even painful situation.

So that neither of these two cases happens to you if you are going to buy one, in this article we are going to explain how you can know the size of a ring. This way, you won't make mistakes and you will buy, even online, a ring that fits exactly to the right size and necessary that you can wear or give to that special person.

Use another ring to know the size and compare

This is one of the best methods to know the size of a ring for yourself or for anyone else you want to give this wonderful gift to. You should take the size from an old ring so that it is neither tight nor loose on you or the person you are going to give it to.

You can take that ring with you to compare it with the one you are thinking of buying. If the circumferences fit perfectly when you place them together, it means you have found the correct size.

Measure the inner diameter of a ring

It is another method that helps to know the ring size and is very useful for buying this type of jewelry online. In this case, you should use a measuring tape to measure the diameter of the inner face of the ring you already have and whose measurement you know is correct.

You should always count the millimeters, as ring measurements are usually very small. Keep in mind that 1 centimeter equals 10 millimeters. Then, you can go to a size chart and find out the size from the measurement you have obtained of the inner diameter of the ring.

If you don't have the ring on hand, you can calculate the diameter of the finger

This method is the most suitable when you don't have another ring on hand and you want to know the measurements to buy a new one. To do this, you have to wrap a soft measuring tape around your finger and adjust it as if it were a ring. Therefore, it is advisable that it is neither too loose nor too tight.

You must mark the point where both ends of the tape meet forming the circumference and find out how long the piece of measuring tape is, taking into account that you should look at the centimeters. Then, you can find out the diameter of the finger through a simple mathematical operation in which you divide the measurement obtained, in millimeters, by the number 3.14 to get the diameter.

Once you have discovered the diameter of the finger, you can use any standard ring size chart to know the size number from the diameter itself. Also, if the measurement does not match exactly, it is best to always round up rather than down. This is because if you round down, the ring may be too tight, whereas if you round up, it will be slightly looser.

To make sure the size is correct, we recommend repeating the entire process a couple of times to rule out any errors in the measurements or in the mathematical operation itself.

Taking the ring to a jeweler

If you are not convinced by the previous methods, it is advisable to visit a professional jeweler to ensure that the measurement and size are correct, and at MIMÍKOKÓ we will be happy to assist you.
